Pattern 1907 - Lithgow, October 1920

Sword bayonet for use with the .303 caliber Short, Magazine Lee-Enfield No. I Mk. III (SMLE) rifle. The No. I Mk. III rifle was the Australian mainstay during both World Wars and afterward, until superseded by the L1A2 (FN-FAL) selective-fire rifle.

This example was produced in October 1920 at the Australian Small Arms Factory, Lithgow, New South Wales. Bayonet production at Lithgow began in 1913, and ceased in 1942 when bayonet production was moved to Orange Arsenal in July 1942, where most of Australia’s Second World War bayonets were produced.

This example is in great condition with the blade retaining all of of its factory blue. apart from in and out wear the blade is faultless, no chips or dings and edge appears to be factory sharpened.

Ricasso stamped with the Lithgow proof, bellow that 10 '20 (October 1920) and Lithgow. reverse stamped with standard Lithgow inspection marks, along with the X bend test mark

Pommel stamped A 20660? which indicates issue, appears to have also lost some of its finish.

Queensland Maple grips are in great shape, apart from a minor chip near one of the screws. they are secured with 2 blued bolts.

The scabbard is a rare double stitch, also dated 1920 and is in excellent condition. both locket and chape bear the Lithgow star stamp.

A nice example of a post WW1 Lithgow P07 with a rare scabbard.

Some cool things came out of Lithgow
