Pattern 1907 - Lithgow, May, 1942
Sword bayonet for use with the .303 caliber Short, Magazine Lee-Enfield No. I Mk. III (SMLE) rifle. The No. I Mk. III rifle was the Australian mainstay during both World Wars and afterward, until superseded by the L1A2 (FN-FAL) selective-fire rifle.

This example was produced in May1942 at the Australian Small Arms Factory, Lithgow. This would of been one of the last Pattern 1907's produced at Lithgow before production was moved to Orange Arsenal in July 1942.

This example is in great condition. Blade retains all of its factory blue, no dings or chips in the blade. some minor in and out wear but otherwise fine.

Ricasso stamped MA 1907 1 over 5 '42 (May 1942) reverse stamped with the broad arrow ^ acceptance mark, X bend test and MA (Lithgow)

Pommel retains all of its blue and is stamped C 29252 which indicates issue. press stud works smoothly.

Grips are great, no crasks or chips and are both stamped SLAZ. 42

Scabbard is in good condition, unfortunately it has been polished black at some point, however some of the original brown can be seen, mostly near the seam on the back. Manufactured by Mangrovite Belting, Sydney in 1942. Locket stamped OA, chape stamped MA.

The frog is a 1942 dated Pattern 03 leather frog made by F.S. LTD. I have been unable to find out who this maker is. The stitching is sound and strap is supple. D^D is stamped on the front of the frog.

Overall, a nice example of a mid war, late Lithgow production Pattern 1907.

Some cool things came out of Lithgow.
