Patterm 1907 - Orange, May 1943
Sword bayonet for use with the .303 caliber Short, Magazine Lee-Enfield No. I Mk. III (SMLE) rifle. The No. I Mk. III rifle was the Australian mainstay during both World Wars and afterward, until superseded by the L1A2 (FN-FAL) selective-fire rifle.
This example was produced in May 1943 at the No. 2 Feeder Factory, Orange. Bayonet production was moved from Lithgow to Orange Arsenal in July 1942, where most of Australia’s Second World War bayonets were produced.

Unfortunately this one appears to have been attacked with the buffing wheel. Blade is heavily polished and blueing has been almost stripped, apart from that the blade is in great shape, no rust or pitting and no nicks or chips in the blade.

Ricasso stamped MA 1907 1 over 5 '43 (May 1943) reverse stamped broad arrow ^ acceptance mark over X bend test and OA (Orange)

pommel retains all of its blue and is stamped D 53036 which indicates issue. press stud works smoothly.

Grips are in great shape, both marked SLAZ. 43 and secured with 2 blued bolts.

Scabbard is in good condition. Manufactured in 1919 by Lithgow, locket is stamped with the lithgow star, chape is stamped OA (Orange)
